First Seremban Ambulance Cadet Division of St. Paul's visits Vinasihni Home

25th November 2006
FSACD organized a visit to Vinashini Home. Participants included Mr. Lai See Ming, Hon. Secretary General of the St. John Ambulance Council of Malaysia, Mdm. Wong Lai Hwa, Area Superintendent (Nursing) cum officer-in-charge of the school division, Miss Hardeepak Kanda, Mrs Nirmala Subramaniam and Pn. Norhayati bte Hashim, teachers in-charge of the school division, several Divisional Officers, senior members as well as a score of division members.

The Vinashini Home is situated in Taman Jayamas, Jalan Tun Dr. Ismail. This two-storey corner lot terrace house was transformed into a home for the mentally challenged and disabled, young and old alike. This home is managed full time by Mrs. Angela Devi and her husband. This dynamic duo along with a few volunteers look after the 52 individuals housed within the home. A few children are school going and attend regular school around the Seremban district.
The objective of this visit was to provide assistance, monetary and otherwise, to the home. Prior to the visit all parties involved actively took part in a massive donation drive, reaching out to kindly people from all walks of life. The result was overwhelming, with a total of RM4900 in cash donations plus donations in kind valuing up to RM2000. Among the items donated were
bed sheets, pillow cases, blankets, clothes, stuffed toys, toiletries, stationery and edible items such as cooking oil, rice, sardines, baked beans, milk powder, biscuits, cakes, light and dark soya sauces. Part of the cash donations were used to purchase mattresses, which the manufacturer offered at an extremely low price, all in the name of charity. The balance of RM3000 was handed to the trustees of the Home.
During the visit to the home, some members partook in painting the upper level of the home, while the rest busied themselves interacting with the occupants of the home. The younger children enjoyed playing card and board games while the elder folks were content on sharing their experiences and problems with the teachers. Very soon the sun reached its midday peak and the members bid their farewells and said their well wishes.

It was a memorable day for all parties involved. This visit proved to be an eye-opener for all, and a reminder that we are indeed fortunate to be blessed by the normalcy of life. As for the members of the F.S.A.C.D., this visit strives to enforce the principles that the St. John Ambulance movement holds dear, one which resounds clearly in every member’s heart; Pro Utilitate Hominum: For the Service of Mankind.
