Cruising down the Lijiang River
In the Xing’an County of Guilin
At the break of an exhilarating dawn
One cold, misty and exciting morn
Chugging along amidst the river banks with awesome,
Spectacular landscapes and elegant hills
If only I could paint the picture
I would have achieved the ‘Michael Angelo’ fame,
So suffice it I will put it in my own poetic feeling –
Scenically expressed of course
“One hundred miles Lijiang River
One hundred miles of art gallery”
Thousands of flitting brown swallows
Dipping their beaks ritually into the water
Reminiscing the “kiss of Life” we do in St. John
The young tender bamboo leaves
Incessantly touching the surface of the water
Apparently counting the “number of compressions”
Little wonder the Li River never dies
Nearby courting pinkish white cranes
Fanning their wide wings in earnest
Seemingly to revive their ‘fainting’ lovers,
While others do their “Dance of Love” to impress
their partners of their “worthiness”
Oh so romantic! So lovely!
What a sight to behold!
N.B. The author wishes to share his feeling on a river cruise (Li River Tang Shuo) with fellow officers & members of the St. John Ambulance (M) back home. |
