ST. JOHN AMBULANCE MALAYSIA, one of the nation’s leading humanitarian organisations celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008. A few high-profile events were held to honor a century of dedicated services by the organisation.

The Anniversary Celebration kicked off last year on 22 May with the issuance of SJAM First-Day Cover along with 3 new stamps by Pos Malaysia Berhad, and on St. John Day, 24 June 2008, Bank Negara launched a set of 3 Commemorative Coins.


As part of the celebration, 62 out of 79 SJAM officers and members successfully scaled the highest peak in South East Asia – Mount Kinabalu as a symbolic determination to conquer challenges and obstacles that may confront SJAM. A mass community CPR training was organized simultaneously on 30th November 2008 at 31 centres in 24 towns nationwide to promote the importance of first aid training in saving lives.

The Centenary Celebration culminated with a series of events: the International Cadet Camp held on 10th to 16th December 2008 at Templer’s Park, Rawang was participated by nearly a thousand cadets including cadets from 5 oversea countries.

The National Officers Conference took place in Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur on 12th and 13th December 2008. The two-day event brings together St. John constituents from around the country to participate in workshops, seminars and talks.
The celebration was climaxed with the Centennial Parade and Banquet Dinner held on 14th December 2008. The dinner was attended by Guest of Honour,  Deputy National President, The Honorable Minister of Health, YB Dato’ Liow Tiong Lai. Other attendees at the Dinner are Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Commander-in-Chief Dato YBhg. Dr. Low Bin Tick, Deputy Commander-in-Chief YBhg.  Datuk Megat Burhanuddin bin Megat Abdul Rahman, foreign guest and members of SJAM.

Earlier in the morning of 14th December 2008, in commemoration of SJAM 100 years in Malaysia, officers and members gathered for the Centennial Parade at Dataran Merdeka. The parade was reviewed by Dato Othman.15 contingents from all States participated in the parade.


For a century, SJAM has reflected a remarkable spirit of providing charitable work. SJAM has served as a model of how citizens in Malaysia can provide care to those who need it.
